Once in a lifetime opportunity to sleep under the stars
I remember the first time I saw the night sky full of stars thinking 'Wow this is amazing'. That was over 20 years ago, after living in an extremely polluted city in Asia. I still think it's an amazing sight to this day but I cannot help but think most of us take for granted that our night sky is full of twinkling stars. I'm so preoccupied with my everyday life that I hardly go out into my backyard to admire our beautiful night sky. If you are the same, then I have the perfect solution. Join the community along with 350 other people in the Kogarah Community Sleep Out on Saturday 27 July. Take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity to sleep under the stars.
Kogarah Community Services is a lively and diverse organisation offering services to the St George community. Committed to promote community participation; further and display equality, inclusion, compassion; and encourage community relationships, Kogarah Community Services provide excellent activities and support to the St George community. In addition they cater for seniors, children and families providing educational programs and outstanding resources.
The Kogarah Community Sleep Out is a fantastic sponsored event with 350 sleepers at the Jubilee oval, Home of the Dragons. Its purpose is to increase awareness and knowledge of youth homelessness which is a hidden problem in St George and Sutherland Shire. Aiming to unite local community members, businesses and community services, the Kogarah Community Sleep Out will be fundraising for two remarkable local charities, Southern Sydney Youth Refuge and Project Youth, both of whom support youth homelessness in the St George and Sutherland Shire area.
Starting at 6pm, there will plenty of outstanding entertainment including four local rock bands, dance groups, a community choir and a brass band. Consider your dinner sorted as there will be a free sausage sizzle on arrival. At 10.30pm lights go out and you'll be nice and snug in your sleeping bag falling asleep under the stars. This event finishes at 9am, Sunday 27 July, but don't worry, you won't go home hungry because breakfast will be served before 8am.
Although this is a free event, each sleeper is raising funds for Southern Sydney Youth Refuge and Project Youth. Collect your fundraising forms now and start raising funds!
