A regular fixture in Adelaide, Japan Australia Friendship Association's (JAFA) Kodomo no Hi Festival is making its return on Sunday 7 May 2023 at the Thebarton Community Centre. This festival is based on a festival of the same name held on 5 May in Japan to celebrate children's personalities and their happiness.

At the festival, visitors can see and experience various aspects of Japanese culture, which include ikebana (flower arranging), kimono dressing, origami, bonsai and performances of various Japanese musical instruments. Some of the more popular attractions include martial art performances and a train exhibit which allows people to experience what it is like controlling one. One of the more interesting demonstrations is the making of mochi (rice cakes) using traditional tools.

Also at the festival are various food and drink stores so visitors do not have to worry about bringing their own refreshments. Purchasing your food early is advised so you don't have to queue too long for your meal.

Parking for the festival is available at the carpark accessed by the entrance near Ashwin Parade. While not required, visitors are encouraged to wear Japanese costumes to keep with the theme.
