Located behind the Ferntree Gully Library on Burwood Highway, the is a community nursery selling indigenous plants.

As a membership based organisation, the Knox Environment Society has been in operation for over 30 years and has played a vital role in preserving and advocating for the preservation of native vegetation in the area. Members have worked with Knox Council and other groups to try to ensure that plants indigenous to the area are protected and preserved for the future.

Part of the work of the Knox Environment Society is to run the community nursery. This is a way of not only selling indigenous plants but educating the public about them. Most proceeds from the nursery go back into environmental projects in the community.

Staffed by volunteers, the nursery is open on Thursdays from 10am-4pm and on Saturdays and Sundays between 10am & 1pm.

Most tube stock is priced at $2.00 with larger plants costing more. The volunteer staff at the nursery are extremely knowledgeable about the plants and are very keen to help with information and advice. You can also apply to join the society and get more involved in their projects.

Planting indigenous plants not only means that you are planting plants which have a high chance of succeeding in your garden, but you are also encouraging native birds and wildlife into your space. In our ever expanding suburbs and with our ever shrinking backyards, it is vital to the survival or many bird species that we all play a part in preserving our local flora.
