Get yo craft on in Melbourne’s North
So, you have always wanted to learn how to sew or to knit? Or maybe you're a regular crafter, but like the idea of hanging out with like-minded folk, and get some social crafting done?

If so, then classes with Handmaker's Factory maybe just what you're looking for.

Two crafty Melbourne lasses, Nichola and Leisl of Handmaker's Factory, have put together a variety of sewing and knitting classes at Ink & Spindle in Kensington.

The options of classes include:

Learn to Knit
Learn to Sew
Social Sewing
Social Knitting

Classes kick off on Saturday 13th April 2013 from 1 – 4pm, with a 'Learn to Knit' class. You will be taught the basics of knitting: casting on, casting off, knit stitch, purl stitch and how to increase and decrease. In addition to learning all the new skills of knitting, you'll also be shown how to read a pattern, taught about the different types of yarns and when to use them, and shown how to do different stitch patterns. Note – BYO yarn and needles.

If learning to sew is more your bag, then you're in luck. Beginners sewing classes start with a workshop on Saturday 18th May from 10am – 2pm. Perfect for those that have always wanted to sew, but wouldn't know where to start. Expect to learn the basics of sewing, including setting up your machine, pattern and fabric cutting, sewing a garment and finishing techniques. Note - Prior to the class, you'll need to send an email detailing which pattern you have chosen to make.

If you're an experienced stitcher or knitter, you may be interested in stopping by for a little social crafting.

On Saturday 27th April from 10am – 2pm, a Social Sewing Class will commence. Social sewing offers an opportunity to work on a project and meet like-minded stitchers. Nichola and Leisl will be on hand to assist with any sewing difficulties or questions, whilst a cutting out table, space for sewing machines, and an ironing board plus iron will be provided, BYO sewing machine, supplies and project.

Lastly, an afternoon of social knitting will begin in June. Join the Social Knitting Circle on Saturday 1st June from 1 – 4pm, and you can work together on your knitting project with like-minded crafters, you'll have Nichola and Leisl on hand to assist with your yarning dilemmas.
