Welcome. Here you can find the most unique, fun, traditional, tasty, wacky, historical, contemporary, discovered and undiscovered places, events, experiences and things to do.
If you enjoy events bursting with colour and fun, then Knitfest 2016 could be just the thing for you. To be held in the beautiful Sunshine Coast Hinterland town of Maleny on the weekend of 10 - 12 June, this celebration of Yarn and Fibre Arts has in store a host of sights and activities sure to delight the whole family.

Just imagine a streetscape wrapped in yarn art. Trees, buildings, and inanimate objects will be yarnbombed by the Knitfest Team and 7-foot high yarn and fibre decorated lanterns will light up the night. The Maleny Police station will be yarnbombed in a DR WHO TARDIS theme and the whole town will be not only a needlework and crafters' paradise, but also a dream for keen photographers.
Yarns and fibres on display will include knitting, crochet, basket weaving, spinning, lacemaking, weaving and some of the more unusual arts such as tatting and nalbinding (a very early fabric creation technique which predates knitting and crochet). Highlights include workshops, demonstrations, displays, forums, master classes, and guest speakers from craft groups and knitting for causes groups. Musical performances, a suitcase market, handmade craft and collectibles market, trade stalls and street theatre also feature during the weekend and visitors are encouraged to bring their knitting needles, crochet hooks and basket weaving skills for random acts of art in the street
A ride on the Knitfest 'Mystic Bus' will enable visitors to admire all the colourful displays throughout the township as well as local attractions, Maleny Cheese, Maleny Mountain Wines and the extraordinary Maleny Botanic Gardens.
Four competititions will be showcased during the festival on theme of Exotica. See the website for details on categories, free patterns, entry requirements and closing dates.
There's a lot to be done prior to and during the festival and volunteers are welcomed. For example more than 1,000 triangles will be needed to decorate the shop fronts with knitted/crocheted bunting for the event. See here if you would like to enquire about getting involved in this creative community probject.
