Few of us are aware that more than a million pair of socks were knitted during World War One by Red Cross and volunteers. In Australia, schools, church groups, local non-profits, knitting clubs and individuals banded together to contribute to this task of providing such a comfort to Australian troops.

As part of the World War One Centenary tribute, the City of Sydney has organise a ''Socks for Centenary' project and is inviting everyone to knit a pair of socks, which will be part of an installation in Surry Hills Library.

Taking part is easy. Firstly download the participation form an Red Cross original sock pattern from the City of Sydney website. Then starting knitting based on the given Red Cross 1914 pattern but with your own choice of colour.

Make sure you finish your pair of socks and submit it together with the completed participation form to any of the City of Sydney Libraries by 27 March 2015. Don't forget to head over to Surry Hills Library on 18 April 2015 for the Socks for Centenary installation and an Anzac biscuit.
