Maroondah City Council have a Be Kind Maroondah Campaign running and Knit One, Warm One is an initiative that's part of that campaign. It's the perfect way for knitters of all ages and skill levels to combine their creative passion with kindness and help give away as many as they can to Maroondah residents experiencing hardship. Your help is needed to make this happen.
All donations will be accepted until Monday 31 August 2020. For further information on the initiative and to organise collection of your goods/donations of knitted items, phone Council on 1300 88 22 33 or 9298 4598 and they will pick it up from you. Alternatively, you can take your knitted items into one of the participating community houses, with the drop off form attached, by 31 Aug 2020. Due to Stage 3 restriction, please call before you go to one of the community houses as they are only open at limited times. SEE HERE for the list of houses and contact numbers, plus the drop off form to download and fill out before drop off.
Not having a place to call home, not having enough warm clothes or blankets, and not being able to afford to run heating is the reality for many doing it tough. A simple scarf, one of the easiest things to knit, will help the most vulnerable in the community. Anything from knitted socks, scarves, beanies, mittens and gloves in any choice of colour and style is welcome. All items will be going to not-for-profit organisation Wellways to be gifted to people in Maroondah who are sleeping rough or struggling financially.
One act of kindness each day is known to reduce stress. If you'd like to share your kindness stories, head to the following.
