I was very young when my Grandmother taught me to knit; it was the thing you did in those days where creative talents were handed down from generation to generation. Purchasing a store jumper was never heard of and we all went to school wearing knitted items.

Then came the times of the new department style stores like Target, Kmart, Myers, David Jones and so forth, where you could go in and purchase off-the-hanger knitwear. It certainly freed up the hours in your day, where a nightly regime was no longer sitting in front of the tellie knitting. In my Gran's day, the women would get together for an afternoon to catch up on everyone's news while knitting away. Today, we live in a fast society. However, it is pleasing to note that there has recently been an interest in the art of knitting and other crafts from year's past.

Every second Tuesday at the Rundle Mall City Library in Adelaide, meet other friendly faces for Knit and Natter in Room 2 and enjoy a relaxing afternoon and a touch of nattering with like-minded people. The Adelaide Knit and Natter is part of the Australia-wide Knit4Charities Group. Currently, the group has approximately 350 knitters, crochetiers and sewers making items for those in need in South Australia.

If you have time and would like to get out and join this worthy group or just be with others sharing tips, patterns and ideas, bring your knitting, crocheting or other craft items and join in the fun. If you do have items to drop off, please let Pam know in advance as she has limited space to take things home.
