Garin is a massive park area in the East Bay. It is one of those great parks that makes real nature accessible in 45 minutes or less.

I've gone kite-flying, trail hiking, and had some great picnics with friends at Garin. Other people come up here for horseback riding, frisbee, football, nature walks, and general stress de-tox.

[ADVERT]There's a short trail up to a grass plateau on one of the hills. It's a designated kite-flying area. It's usually windy right in that spot.

It's always wise to check the weather report first, so you don't end up alone in the rain or there on the odd day without enough wind.

Be sure to bring a friend and some extra string. Prepare to share the space a little. It's part of the fun, seeing all the beautiful kites soaring together.

There's a pretty little duck pond and lots of trails to wander.
Picnic tables and BBQ areas are everywhere. A lot of these areas can accomodate large groups.

There are a few precious windy days left before the wintery rains. Go fly a kite.
