Families flocked to Lake Monger for the annual Kite Flying Festival which took place on Saturday, 13th January, despite a weekend heatwave, soaring temperatures and muggy humidity weather. The event was pushed back until later in the day, to avoid the midday heat and an expected 41-degree top temperature. While some families did not let the weather deter them from a kite flying tradition, it was good to see people with their sun protection, and as the sun went down a nice vibe emerged.

There wasn't just kite flying, there was a DJ with music, people sipped on fresh fruit juices like watermelon and orange, mango and coconut smoothies, vegetarian dhal dishes were also popular, and kites were available to purchase and assemble.

It was a multicultural festival coinciding with Lohri , an Indian Festival people celebrate by flying kites, lighting bonfires and throwing peanuts into the bonfire.. It also goes by different names in various provinces around India.
