Opera Queensland presents the Cole Porter classic, Kiss Me Kate, at QPAC for 2 performances only. This performance focuses on the classic upbeat songs with a semi-stage musical performance. Which basically means it won't be a full stage production, but it will give the audience plenty of opportunity to enjoy songs like "Too Darn Hot", "Why Can't You Behave?", "Wunderbar", "So In Love", "I Hate Men". and "Brush Up Your Shakespeare".

The plot is a play within a musical. The context of the story is a theatre troupe performing a production of Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew". Supposedly inspired by the real bickering that Cole Porter saw between the cast of Taming of the Shrew Production, this musical also sees the conflict in the play mirrored by the "cast" and played out in the musical.

While it does sound confusing, Kiss Me Kate has been a hit from the moment it first opened in 1948 and won the very first Tony Award in 1949. Since then the musical has enjoyed popular revivals about every 10 years, though it has been 20 years since it was last staged at QPAC.

So don't miss this production which brings together some of the top names in opera and musical theatre in Queensland. Starring real life husband and wife Peter Coleman-Wright and Cheryl Barker as the musical stars, they are joined by Jason Barry-Smith, Bryan Probets and backed by the Opera Queensland Chorus and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

This is a definite must for fans of classic musical theatre and in particular of Cole Porter. While November in Queensland will be hot, it is never Too Darn Hot for Cole Porter.
