The Gilbert and Sullivan Society of SA proudly present Kinky Boots playing at The Arts Theatre from Thursday September 26th to Saturday October 5th, with Matinee performances on September 28th & October 5th at 1.30pm. Kinky Boots is a Broadway musical with music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper. Based on the book by Harvey Fierstein.

Charlie Price is the fourth generation to run Price & Sons Shoe Factory in Northampton. He wants more than the life his father had and makes a move for London, but is quickly thrown back into things when his father suddenly passes away. He looks to close down the company as it is overstocked with shoes and no buyers, until a new idea lands him a shot at the big time. Charlie joins forces with a Drag Queen called Lola and takes Kinky boots to Mulan.

This sassy story makes you realise you don't need to go far from home to know where you belong and the family you need by your side are the ones you grew up with. It's a heartfelt story with catchy songs, life lessons and dance routines that make you want to dance along.

Ron Abelia as Lola along with the Angels Thomas Brodie Phillips, Shane Huang, Konstanz Symeonakis, Benjamin Johnson, Anthony Bulter and Gil Costes wore incredible costumes that make you feel like you're watching a stage show in Vegas, accompanied with the vocals of Abelia, who was born to own the stage. His solos of 'Not my Father's Son' and 'Hold me in your Heart' were so beautiful, so heartfelt, you could feel the emotion and it bought tears to my eyes.

Ian Andrew was amazing as Charlie. His voice melted the audience and his solo to 'Sole of a man' had so much passion. A favourite scene of the show was when Abelia teams up with Andrew for 'Everybody Say Yeah' as they change what the factory stands for along with the product. This is where their journey starts and they bond over an epic dance routine on conveyor belts.

Starring Ian Andrew (Charlie), Ron Abelita (Lola/Simon), Jemma McCulloch (Lauren), Ruby Pinkerton (Nicola), Warren Logan (Don), Vanessa Lee Shirley (Trish), Dharini Rajaramanan (Pat), James McCluskey-Garcia (George) and Mark Oates (Mr Price)

The routines in this production were fantastic, well thought out with great use of props and lighting, especially during the fight scene. I have no idea how the cast walked in those sexy knee-high boots with such ease, let alone danced in them. This deserves special consideration and the closer featuring everyone in kinky boots looked so good from the audiences view. 5/5 Stars. An incredible production that deserved the standing ovation it received on opening night.

Don't miss your chance to see Kinky Boots at The Arts Theatre this September.
