Kingston Arts Creative Lounge division, located within Shirley Burke theatre in Parkdale, will host another series of hands-on workshops for your kids in the summer holidays.

Shirley Burke theatre is just a short walk from Parkdale train station, offering a large open space for kid's creative classes. Each school holiday period, Kingston Arts gather Melbourne artists and instructors to lead an interesting program of activities to entice and educate your children. All manner of classes are available to book, including craft and dance classes, fine art, Lego mechanics and more. The full summer 2016 Creative Lounge covers:

Tech camp Lego robo warrior challenge
Monday 11 January 2016. 9:30am to 12:30pm.



Your kids Lego Robot creations will join the battle arena, and compete in the ultimate combat challenge. Two Techcamp teams use Lego Mindstorms EV3 robotics kits to build a robot to enter the battle. Who will win the title?

The Social Knitwork
Tuesday 19 January 2016. 1:30 - 5:30pm

Melbourne artist Bennie is back again with his ' knit a critter ' workshop. No experience necessary, your kids will learn everything they need to know in the afternoon of knitting fun.



There won't be socks or mitts in this knitting class, your kids will take home their very own kitted animal instead. An official 'Social Knitwork' starter pack filled with knitting goodies is given with each child booked onto the class

Sunshine Science and Tinky Tonk Toys

Just because school's out for summer, doesn't mean a bit of science can't work its way into playtime. There are two workshops available to your budding young scientists.

Sunshine Science 9.30 - 11am

Your kids will spend the morning exploring sunshine. There will be sun prints and UV alarms to take home, too.

Tinky Tonk Toys 11.30 - 1pm

Long before plastic battery operated toys, kids played with tinky tonky toys, but how did they work? Your children will be able to make couple of tinky tonk toys to take home, and find out how energy works.

Artist For A Day: Sun, Sea Sand
Wednesday 20 January 2016. 10am - 4pm.



Inspire your young artists by booking onto a full day of drawing and 3D sculpture making. There will be arty games all in the theme of summertime fun, followed by a morning of drawing activities. The afternoon will involve building 3D multi-media sculptures. Activities are taught by local sculpture, drawing and textiles artist Juliet D Collins.

Introduction to Irish Dancing
Wednesday 13 January & Wednesday 20 January 2016



Irish dancing reached global recognition after Michael Flatley's Riverdance captivated audiences all over the world. Your kids can have a go at Irish dancing in a workshop taught by Meagan Blake, a registered TCRG with the Irish Dance Commission (CLRG). They will be taught a number of basic steps, which will then be put together to perform a dance finale that you can watch.

Hearts In The Arts Goes 'POP'
Tuesday 12 January 2016. 9.30am - 1.00pm.



How about a morning of arts, dance, music and even yoga! Your kids will begin this 4-in-1 workshop with a stretch, bend, balance and bounce Yoga lesson. Crafternoon's Print Workshop
Wednesday 13 January 2016. 9.30am - 12.30pm



Jam Basket will teach your kids all about printmaking basics. They will take home their very own screen printed t-shirt, using their own design. There will be time for your kids to experiment on paper before producing their final masterpiece. T-shirts are not included, so remember to give your child a blank tee to bring.
