The Kingaroy area is well known for its peanut and navy bean production but is now gaining popularity as a wine growing region.

South Burnett Wine reports that The South Burnett is " ...Queensland's largest wine region; home to Queensland's biggest vineyards and over a dozen Queensland wineries; and is barely more than a decade old. But its wineries have already won strings of awards at State and national shows; its wines are served in the Queensland State Parliament and at many leading Brisbane restaurants; and they're also exported to Asia and several other overseas destinations where fine Australian wines command a premium."

I visited the on my return to Kingaroy from Taabinga Homestead. Now that's a good reason to stay at Taabinga, as the winery is only a short distance from the homestead.

The Winery was established in 1998, and only the grapes grown in their vineyards are used in making their wines. There are 11 different grape varieties and it is one of the biggest vineyards in the South Burnett.

The Winery is open daily for tastings from 10 am to 5 pm. Light meals are available by arrangement during the week, and at weekends wood fired pizzas are on the menu (gluten free bases are available too – but please let them know in advance).

You can also arrange for a special function, or group tours.

Check for more details on their website .
