Only ninety minutes drive from Brisbane, Kingscliff is a great spot for a weekend away or even a day trip. Why not go on either the second or fourth Saturday of the month and check out the while you are there? The markets have an outstanding location, next to an expansive pristine surf beach, so it's easy to combine a visit with a trip to the beach.

They are fun regional markets with a variety of stalls and a friendly atmosphere. I liked listening to one of the vendors strumming on his guitar.

My favourite stall sold a lovely selection of good quality wooden toys and natural instruments. There was a really interesting range of shakers and unusual percussion instruments made out of husks, seed pods and gourds. The toys were well priced with lots of items under $5 so it would be a good place for kids to spend pocket money.

My three year old daughter made a bee-line for the stall selling handmade doll's clothes which were good value, although the range of sizes was limited.

There was a good range of regional produce, including stands selling honey, macadamia nuts, spreads and plants.

I like the idea of picking some goodies up for a picnic on the beach. There was a good selection of local fruit as well as fresh bread. My choice would be "Nico's famous pan cooked flatbread". You could pick up some delicious Greek sweet treats from Ilias The Greek

It's not just arts, crafts and food. There are practical stalls as well, including kitchenware, DIY materials, carpets and bed linen.

There is also a selection of second hand bric-a-brac to rummage through. You could have fun with the kids "lucky dip" bags for $1.

If you're into water sports, check out the beautiful stand up paddle boards on sale at the Mongoboards tent. You could try out your new board straight away on Cudgen Creek, just a few minutes drive away, which is a fantastic flat water spot to canoe, standup paddle or swim.

The markets run on the second and fourth Saturday of every month from 7am - 12pm. There is plenty of parking at Jack Bayliss Park, Marine Parade, Kingscliff.
