In October 2020, Kings Cross Distillery opened its doors In a space steeped with history. Over the years, the space has served many different and at times even illegal purposes, beginning in the 1960s, the building as a speakeasy and an illegal gambling den. The space was then turned into the Private Book Shop in the 1970s and later the Ecstasy Adult Book Shop. After once again re-inventing itself, the space is now a legal operating micro-distillery, cocktail bar and kitchen.
The Distillery hasn't erased the history of the space and has instead embraced it. It has kept its speakeasy vibe with the gorgeous green chairs, exposed brick walls and polished concrete floors. It has also kept a little corner that pays homage to its adult bookshop past as well as an antique vault, which is now filled with shiny bottles of their very own gin.
The Distillery makes two types of gin on site - a dry gin, which is based on a classic London Dry gin recipe dating back to 1937 and a navy strength gin. You can get acquainted with both of these gins with the gin flight, which gives you a taste of the Australian Classic Dry Gin and Garden Island Navy Strength Gin, plus two mini Gin Cocktails. You can also try the gin when ordering any of their gin cocktails, which, of course, feature their very own gin and are very delicious!
If you somehow get tired of the gin and cocktails, the Kings Cross Distillery also offers a range of wine from their Wine Gallery. And If you're not drinking, they have you covered with a great selection of mocktails, which were just as nice as the cocktails!
In addition to an extensive drinks menu, the Kings Cross Distillery also has an on-site kitchen that serves up small plates, charcuterie boards and desserts to be enjoyed with their drinks! With all that Kings Cross Distillery has on offer, it obvious to see why this place is a popular venue to enjoy some cocktails and watch the bustling laneway!
