Kings Canyon Tour

A steep climb up well-trodden steps greets you on the first part of the main loop tour on arrival at Kings Canyon. The effort is worthwhile after the rocky climb with stunning views of Watarrka National Park. Look out for a variety of native birdlife, including the zebra finch and black-breasted buzzard.
As you walk the loop around the rim of the canyon you feel you are in your own Australian version of the famous Grand Canyon. As time, heat and effort allow you can descend to the Garden of Eden to enjoy the permanent oasis waterhole. After crossing a bridge over the canyon, you get superb views. The descent is slow down a rocky but clear path.
Allow three hours for the walk covering about 6 kilometres. Take a sun hat, sunscreen, water and in summer a fly net to cover your face. You should have a good level of fitness to complete the walk.
There are a number of tour options from Uluru and Alice Springs. I travelled with APT Kings on a bus between both destinations that connected with the tour. National Park Entry fees apply to the park.
