It's the beach fit for a king with a name to suit. Kings Beach in Caloundra, is one of the many jewels in the crown that is the glorious Sunshine Coast. The beach is always a busy one with swimmers and surfers, both locals and tourists from interstate and abroad. It's not surprising - the beach, the nearby park and the amenities are all Grade A stuff. If you can only spend your time at one Sunshine Coast beach it better be this one.

Welcome to Kings Beach
The Beach, on
Ormond Terrace, is patrolled all year round, making it the perfect place for those still fresh to swimming in the ocean. It's pretty wide open here, even on the busiest of days you should be able to find a spot of sand to call your own.

Surfers and board riders will find Kings Beach particularly appealing when there's a north east wind blowing. You may even see a few people snorkelling, scuba diving and riding jet skis out past the waves.

Grab a spot by the beach and watch the waves roll in
If you don't want to get your feed sandy there are also plenty of undercover areas just off the beach. There's some natural shade thanks to the trees and a couple of shade sails set up with some benches facing the ocean.

Settle in under the shade of the nearby park
This is a great spot for sight seeing - in just a short time down there one weekend recently I spotted a rather large yacht sitting off shore and saw a cargo ship pass by on the coastline, probably on its way to Brisbane. Good luck finding one of these scenic seats though - it seems to be the place to sit down with a take away coffee from one of the nearby stores.

Speaking of coffee, be sure to check out
Coffee Cat on Kings Beach. They make a mean cup of coffee plus they also rent out surf boards and body boards on an hourly or daily basis. There's also plenty to see, eat and drink in the area.
Salt Water @ Kings and
Domenico's on Kings always seem to be full. The
Kings Beach Tavern as well is another top spot.

Kings Beach is also home to some great annual events. The
Caloundra Music Festival keeps on getting hotter every year while the
Kings of the Coast ocean swim always manages to draw a crowd for its 3.8km Ironman distance swim.

Enjoy that view
Kings Beach is a great place to base yourself for a weekend on the Coast. There's a range of accommodation within earshot of the beach that would make the perfect base for a weekend out of the city. The
Casablanca Beachfront Apartments and the
Rolling Surf Resort are about as close as you can get to the beach without getting your feet wet.

Bring the family for a great day out
With a name like Kings Beach you really do expect the royal treatment - and I think it's fair to say you will find it here. Make a day, a weekend or an entire week out of this beautiful Sunshine Coast beach.
