At my table several people indulged in large, crunchy-topped scones which appeared to have nearly exploded in the oven. Homemade strawberry jam with cream induced satisfied sighs.

Feeling adventurous, I opted for a rich chocolate honeycomb cheesecake and a cold drip-filtered coffee. Strong enough to grow hair on your upper lip, the coffee was at once smoky and refreshing.

The cabinet offered four fruity gluten free desserts besides a large variety of sweets. Milkshakes are served in jars-cum-mugs and contemporary designs in latte glasses kept up with the latest urban chic.

The outdoor views of dense shrubbery gave the feel of a bush setting, while we were made cosy by a crackling wood-heater. Service was friendly and brisk.

Outside seating in the verdant garden area was delightful but a little too chilly for that early Autumn morning. Our group left inhaling aromas of rosemary and roasting lamb being prepared in the kitchen.

Browsing the elegant china and homewares or strolling through the fountain-festooned nursery completes a perfect morning tea.
