Delicious, nutritious and inexpensive are not words often used to describe vegan food served at non-vegan restaurants, but this Chinese restaurant ticks all the boxes.

On Monday and Tuesday evenings, vegans can nosh on a selection of meat and animal product free dishes at the King Tea Vegan Banquet. Get there between 5pm 7pm to enjoy the early bird special for $20. After 7pm, the banquet is $25.

The King Tea vegan banquet doesn't use meat substitutions, instead preferring tofu and vegetables to provide protein. Dishes include crispy tofu, mushroom stir fry, and a vegan fried rice made without egg.

The banquet is designed to feed four or more people, but a scaled-down version is available. Bookings are essential and can be made via the website or by calling 3368 2889.

King Tea Chinese serves modern Chinese dishes with a 'strong Sichuan influence'. Sichuan, a southwest region is China, is well known in China and throughout the world for their spicy, fragrant cuisine. "One dish, one shape, hundreds of dishes, hundreds of tastes" is a Chinese expression use to describe Sichuan food and for this reason, the cuisine is well suited to the vegan diet.

King Tea also offers a non-vegan banquet and Wednesdays and a $20 all you can eat yum cha brunch deal on Saturday and Sunday between 10am 11.30am.
