With scenery including rolling green hills, beautiful gardens, spectacular beaches and Newcastle's CBD skyline, is one of Newcastle's finest attractions.

The park provides a spectacular background setting for an outdoor wedding and the Rotunda, whilst presenting beautifully in wedding photos, also provides shelter if the weather takes a turn for the worst.

There are plenty of great grassy picnic spots and the kids will love the big hills and wide open spaces that the park provides or perhaps just a lazy walk down to the famous Bogey Hole baths.

If history is your forte, check out the remains of the Shepherds Hill Battery and Gunner's Cottage at the southern end of the park which were in regular use from 1890 to World War II.

But I hear you saying "I want some action and excitement not picnics and weddings right?" Well then make sure you get along to the Mattara Hill Climb. Yes that's right every year this beautiful park is transformed into a high speed car racing track as part of the Mattara Festival.

This is a week-long festival starting on the 1st of October that includes parades, live music and lots of entertainment for all ages. And of course the highlight for the rev-heads is the hill climb which runs over two days.

For more information on the Mattara Festivl click here or for information and some great action shots of previous Mattara Hill Climbs visit here
