Fresh and fabulous authentic Vietnamese food in an acquaint rustic setting, seating not more than 20 odd people.

Kin is the direct translation of a Vietnamese word - gia (pronounced za) which means a person's relative. Fitting for this welcoming family run eatery, where their motto "a family that cooks and eats together, converses and drinks together, stay together" seems to ring true.

A tempting menu of warming pho, vermicelli bowls with a choice of mains, traditional salads, grilled treats including skewers and Bo La Lop, and taste teasers for those wanting something light. FODMAP friendly, gluten free, and vegetarian options available. Download the full menu here .

My recommendation for a light lunch: rice paper rolls filled with vermicelli, pickled carrots, lettuce, Vietnamese mint, with a choice of prawn, pork, chicken, or tofu, accompanied by a delicate, aromatic coriander and hoisin dipping sauce. Simple, clean flavours. Pair with fragrant and full of flavour fish cakes – a must order- served with an addictive spicy srirracha sauce.

My dining companion insists that everything on the menu is outstanding, but always returns to his favourite vermicelli bowl with lemongrass beef. A hearty serve, and perfect comfort meal for a cold winter day.

Whatever you choose, you can be guaranteed of authentic taste using fresh ingredients, served by welcoming staff in a fantastic space. If you're looking for a taste of Vietnam in Prahran, head to Kin, Shop 1, 233 Chapel Street; open Sunday through Thursday 11am-10pm, and Saturdays and Sundays 11am-11pm.

Happy dining!
