I recently was asked to a lovely event that involved drinking alcohol. Well, that's a treat, but I just can't drink and then drive. I am almost a two pot screamer. And I live way out of the Big Smoke (Melbourne CBD). So I wanted quick and convenient, out of the bustle of the city, close to the beach, a pool, a spa, fine dining, a walk in modern shower, and a comfy bed, cheap. As for my family and friends, ignore them; it really is a myth that I am fussy.

So my search started as I plundered the depths of the internet to find the perfect place. Well oh, la, ala ... I hit the jackpot at $100 for a night and just a short drive to St Kilda Beach. At first, I thought, goodness, that is too cheap, "What have I done?". Well, I had won Tattslotto with the Kimberley Gardens Resort in East St Kilda but didn't realise how big the prize till I arrived. It was a pleasure to take all these photos.

I wish I had arrived right at 2pm for check-in to take advantage of this wonderful venue. As I drove up, even though it was in the middle of the city bustle, it is a quiet oasis surrounded by palm trees, bamboo touches and modern, clean rooms.

And FREE parking. So many of the venues I checked around the city had parking at around $30 extra on top of the room rate.

I arrived in a rush, check-in was seamless and I discovered a delightful and spacious room with my style; a blend of modern French Provincial. It had a lovely little sun-drenched courtyard, which I, unfortunately, did not have time to enjoy as I headed back out.

Bright red comfy bikes were available for a quick trip to St Kilda beach. With seats that fit a more normal body, not model mania.

I got a glimpse of a stunning dining room, and sweet private courtyards to tuck yourself away in with a good book.

The indoor pool and spa looked so refreshing. I at least had time to put a toe in and they were both the perfect temperature on a cold winter's night or summer's day.

Now the most important thing, I have a bad back. So the bed is all. And this place gets the "comfy bed" award. I took full advantage of the late check out at a generous 12 pm and stayed every minute I could.

If you are headed for a vacation, a trip to the beach, an event in the city, this is the perfect venue.

Next time, I will stay far longer and taste the restaurant as well to enjoy all that the lovely Kimberley Gardens has to offer.

But this is also a wonderful venue for a conference, wedding, or anniversary. It would make a classy event.
