Several waterfalls and swimming holes surround the beautiful Byron Bay, one of the easily accessible ones is Killen Falls.

About a 30 minute drive through Bangalow from Byron and you will arrive at Killen Falls. Parking is extremely limited but people seem to come and go all the time, so if you can't find a car park, it's just a case of waiting 10 minutes. Once parked, continue to the bottom of the car park and begin your walk down to the Falls.

It is around a 600 m walk to the top of the fall, where there is a viewing platform and you can look out over the 10m drop, where the water meets the below Billabong. Continuing on the path, around another 400m, you will come to the base of the falls where you can sit and relax enjoying the ambience or take a swim.

Getting in can be quite treacherous as the rocks are rather sharp and quite slippery, some people have boogie boards which was actually a good idea as you could float over the rocks to the deeper area. It's relatively shallow most of the way out right up until the waterfall itself so take care not to dive or jump in deeply.

If you decide not to go into the water it's quite a pleasant place to sit although there are mosquitoes in plenty so make sure you take some insect repellent. You can also walk across the rocks and sit underneath the waterfall itself, having a cave-like experience.

Whether you decide to go in or not it's probably a good idea to wear a swimsuit underneath your clothes as many people change their mind and decide to swim once they arrive in the beautiful setting.

At the top near the car park, there is a simple toilet shelter but no other facilities.

Before you arrive or after you leave there is a very quaint little village 10 minutes down the road called the Newrybar which is a beautiful place to have a cup of tea and a little wander.
