The upcoming January 2017 School Holiday Program, entitled 'Terrific Tales: A Play in Five Days', is specifically designed for primary school aged children and will be held in a nurturing, non-competitive environment. The drama program runs from Tuesday 17th to Saturday 21st January 2017 and consists of four days of rehearsals and concludes with a special performance for family and friends.
This drama program is suitable for children who are interested in acting, as well as children who may want to use drama as a way of building self-esteem and confidence. With each rehearsal there will be an emphasis on having fun and the friendly teacher will be on hand to help children with directions and learning lines.
'Terrific Tales' refers to traditional and non-traditional stories and children will be invited to act out their own versions of these tales and/or a short pre-scripted work.
For the first four days of the course, children will attend workshops from 11am to 3pm. On performance day, there will be one final rehearsal and the show will commence at 12.30pm. This performance will be open to the public and family and friends are encouraged to attend.
The performance is very much a work in progress and is not designed to be a slick production (not even experienced actors could achieve this in four or five days!). The purpose of the show is to give family and friends an idea of what the children have been doing during the course, and if necessary, the teacher will be on stage with the students at times. The performance will include a great deal of improvisation.
Over the course of 5 days, children will learn the skills of acting and apply them to a character; experiment with how a different character moves through movement exercises and improve their voice skills.
Dates and times of this school holiday drama program are as follows;
Tuesday 17 January to Friday 20 January 2017: 11am – 3pm
Saturday 21 January: 10am – 12pm, followed by a snack break and 'warm up' in preparation for performance
