Kids Mornings at Southland Shopping Centre

If you have a preschooler or two, you may be interested to know that Southland Shopping Centre hosts Kids Mornings every Wednesday from 10am. There is a different activity available each week which your little one can join, completely free of charge. These mornings often take the form of arts and craft or sometimes a 'Meet and Greet' with a favourite character – next week (Wed April 3rd) Baby Shark is swimming on by. Kids Mornings run in term time only and are aimed at the five years and under crowd. There is a lovely little space set up right outside Toy World on level 2 where you can turn up (no bookings required) and your little one can get creative.

Westfield promotes these mornings on their Southland website, so you can take a look at the start of each month and see what's planned for the next few weeks. Check back at the end of April to see what's planned for term 2. I took my four-year-old to make a pasta necklace last week and he had a lovely time. There are tables and chairs at just the right height for little ones and the brightly coloured resources are all thoughtfully set out in a way that invites children to dig in and make a masterpiece. We were introduced to the activity by a very friendly host who communicated really well with all the children.

A stone's throw from this space is a small indoor playground which the children seem to naturally gravitate after they've been sitting still for a while. There are opportunities for climbing and sliding, as well as interactive panels which use lights to encourage exploration. And of course, if you're unlucky your child will be lured by the window displays in Toy World and drag you in there too.

If refreshments are needed there are plenty of options including a handy café right by the play area which goes by the name of Jody Mac's . If you've got shopping to do and a toddler to entertain, Southland's Kids Mornings might be just what you're after.
