A child with a pencil and plenty of paper is a happy child. Making the connections from seeing to imagining and creating helps children to understand their world and develops cognitive and coordination skills, as well as confidence. And, contrary to popular belief, anyone can sketch. Erin Hill Sketching offers Kids Holiday Sketching classes for juniors and teens, and what better way to get them out of the house and into the world.
It may surprise you to know that sketching isn't the same as drawing. In sketching the emphasis is on observing and sketching quickly. The key is learning 'how to see", and that's what your children will be taught in these fun and relaxed school holiday workshops. They'll learn to sketch real objects, using black drawing pens, and watercolour pencils with a water brush for colour. They'll also learn that every line adds to a sketch and that there are no mistakes. Above all they'll be guided in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and encouragement.
And all the sketching isn't confined to the studio. Each day has a particular theme and begins in the studio with sketching items from the studio or brought from home, and then it's out into the great Manly outdoors for sketching on the go and a picnic lunch, followed by another stint in the studio. Each child will need to bring lunch, an umbrella and a lightweight bag.
