Back to school doesn't mean the fun has to stop
February is a month of change - many Canberra kids are excited about going back to school or starting school for the first time. Back to school also means that everything gets quieter, so the under 5's around the city can have the playgrounds to themselves again and go to playgroups and activities, to meet other bubs and kids. If you're looking for ideas of what to do, check out the following events and activities for kids to enjoy in February - weekday fun for preschoolers and family fun on weekends. Googfest is a family friendly music event that will be held at Rockley Oval in Googong, between 5pm - 9pm. Take a picnic and enjoy live music, food trucks and plenty of grass to dance and run around on. At the end of the night, look to the skies for a fireworks finale! See here for details.
The Bungendore Hoedown is an all ages event in Bungendore, with kids activities, gum boot throwing, tug-of-war, live country music, face painting, jumping castle, markets and even a flash mob! See here for details.
4WD Spectacular Outdoor Recreation Show will be held at Queanbeyan Showgrounds on 3rd and 4th February. If your kids love camping and going 4WD'ing, they will enjoy the demonstrations, kids amusements and activities. Entry costs $15 per adult, kids under 16 are free. See here for details.
World Wetlands Open Day featuring Canberra City Farm will be held at Jerrabomberra Wetlands with ranger guided walks, children's activities, reptile displays, art exhibitions, Indigenous cultural activities, food and more. Entry is by gold coin donation. See here for details.
SunDaze at Canberra Olympic Pool will be held each Sunday in February, with live music, inflatables and jumping castle for the kids. This fun afternoon for all ages will be held between 2pm - 5pm. See here for details.
American Express Openair Cinemas has been running through January and will finish on 25th February. On the 4th February, watch Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle under the stars and enjoy the pre-show live music from 6pm. See here for details.
Monday, 5th February
ACT Libraries will be starting up Giggle and Wiggle and Stortytime again this week, which runs throughout school terms for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers. See here for details.
ACT Playgroups will resume this week, see here for your closest venue.
Paint and Play will start up again for the school term, for under 5's to enjoy some craft, painting and fun with other kids - in locations all around Canberra. See here for details.
Mainly Music begins again for the under 5's, in 10 locations across Canberra. See here for one closest to you. For a full article on Mainly Music, see here. The National Gallery of Australia will be holding a workshop called StART with Art, for 2 - 5 year olds and their carers. It will be held between 10am - 12:30pm and include art activities, an interactive tour and an art-inspired live music concert for everyone to enjoy. The cost is $12 per child. See here for details.
The National Portrait Gallery will be resuming with Little Faces again for the term, for children ages from 6 months to 3 years. Kids will explore the use of colours using movement, singing and water play. The cost is $12 per child, which includes tea or coffee for a carer. See here for details. Wednesday, 7th February
The National Museum of Australia are introducing their new Toddler Program, between 10am - 11am. They will be held on the first Wednesday of the month and include art-making, storytelling and gallery exploration activities. The cost is $10 per child, plus Eventbrite booking fee. Friday, 9th February
Lifeline Bookfair will be held at the EPIC (Exhibition Park in Canberra) between 9th - 11th February. This huge event has a gold coin entry to get in and then choose from a wide range of books, including children's books, for affordable prices. Kids will enjoy sifting through the piles to find their favourites! See here for details.
We're Going On A Bear Hunt will be showing at the Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre, between 10th - 11th February. The show will run for 55 minutes and is suitable for children ages 3 and over. See here for details.

Sunday, 11th February
The Little Mermaid Disney Sing-Along movie session will be held at Tuggeranong Limelight Cinemas. Tickets cost just $8 and include a free kids craft and colouring in before the screening, along with prizes for best dressed! See here for details.
The National Museum of Australia will be running a Printmaking Workshop for kids aged 10-12. Cost is $60. See here for details.
Weet-bix Kids TRYathalon will be held at the Australian Institute of Sport in Bruce, for children aged between 7 - 15 inclusive. Kids will swim, cycle and run, as well as have fun and win great prizes. See here for details.

The National Multicultural Festival will be held in the city centre between 16th - 18th February. This huge weekend attracts thousands of people into the city with international food stalls, dancing, singing and multicultural performances. There will also be a Children's Sanctuary with crafts, storytelling, music and dance. Join celebrity chef Poh Lin Yeow on Saturday afternoon (between 3:15pm - 3:30pm) for a reading of her own children's story Sweet Petite. See here for details.
