After a busy month for families in May , the temperatures drop for another busy month in June. Although it may be tempting to stay inside and snuggle up by the heater, there are a number of fun outdoor activities to do across the region. Why not book in for a truffle hunt at the Canberra Truffle Festival and learn about these fascinating fungi? Or pile on the jackets and watch the dirt fly at the Netier National Capital Rally? If you are looking for something a little more low-key, there is also Story Time for pre-schoolers and a whole host of opportunities to get crafty around the city. Take a scroll through this list and see which events and activities will entertain your family this June. If your kids love dogs, they will enjoy these two cuties!



Friday, 1st June

The Canberra Truffle Festival** is held each year between June and August and has many activities for adults - as well as some fun activities for the kids! Take part in a truffle hunt with the dogs and watch them sniff out a prized Black Truffle. Why not book in for a Family Truffle Hunt at Macenmist Black Truffle and Wines on 17th June and 15th July, for a unique farm experience? See here for family friendly events at the festival.

Netier National Capital Rally will be held at Kowen Forest between 1st - 3rd June, with spectator areas to watch the racing in action over the weekend. If your kids love cars and noise, they will love the thrill of this off-road event. Ensure you track down the Kennards Hire Rally Village on 2nd June, with food trucks, jumping castles, face painting and Canberra Reptile Zoo for the kids between 11am - 2pm! On both the 2nd and 3rd June, kids can get the autographs of the drivers at Pialligo Estate Service Park . See here for details.

Mini Minties will be held at the Royal Australian Mint, for pre-schoolers to see and learn about the Mint's famous robot Titan, plus craft a robot of their very own. The cost is $10, which includes a tea or coffee from the Mint Café. See here for details.

The Australian National Botanical Gardens have Story Time on the first Friday of each month at 10am, at a cost of $5 per child. See here for details.

The Australian War Memorial** has Story Time every Friday at 10:30am, for pre-schoolers. Hear stories of brave animals and faraway places, brought to life through puppets, uniforms, and educational toys. See here for details.



Saturday, 2nd June

Lighten Up @ Limelight sessions are sensory relaxed screenings for young children at Tuggeranong Limelight Cinema. They will be showing Duck, Duck, Goose at 2pm, with the event supported by Marymead Autism Centre. See here for details.

The Hurley Burley Winter Fair will be held at Garema Place, with live music, markets, food, bar, carousel rides, film, dance, marshmallows and more! Warm up at this winter event, held between 12pm - 10pm. See here for details.

Alpaca Magic is a working farm located in Sutton, half an hour north of Canberra. In June they will be running family activities such as Breakfast with the Alpacas & Llamas and Create your own Alpaca/Llama Fridge Magnet. If your kids love animals, they will enjoy this unique farm visit! See here for details.





Sunday, 3rd June

Farm Gate Markets will be held at Pialligo Estate, with market stalls, food and music for the whole family to enjoy. As this market is held out in a paddock, it will be postponed if raining. See here for details.

CMAG on Sunday: Fruit from Faraway will be held at the Canberra Museum and Gallery in the city centre. Kids will enjoy making a collage of the most exotic fruit salad ever imagined! The cost is $5 per child. See here for details.

Disney Pixar Classics Festival will be held at Tuggeranong Limelight Cinemas, with all tickets costing $8. On 3rd June they will be showing The Incredibles at 2pm. See here for details.

Bot Workshop is a coding workshop at the Canberra Theatre Centre, so that young children can learn the methods of coding. There will be workshops at 9am and 11am at a cost of $15. See here for details.





Tuesday, 5th June

Little Faces at the National Portrait Gallery will be held on 5th - 8th June for children aged from 6 months to 3 years. In winter they will be looking at artwork Dr John Yu, 2004, by Ah Xian and playing with movement, singing and play dough. The cost is $12 - however get in quick as places are booking fast! Wednesday, 6th June

Toddler Program will be held at the National Museum of Australia, for children aged 3 - 5 years. Kids will enjoy art-making, storytelling and gallery exploration. The cost is $10. See here for details.

Friday, 8th June

Canberra Raiders v's Panthers rugby league match will be held at GIO stadium, starting from 6pm. Wear your warmest jackets and take a blanket for a big night at the footy! See here for details.

Saturday, 9th June

Lah Lah's 10th Birthday Party will be held at the Canberra Southern Cross Club in Woden, starting at 10am. Kids will enjoy an hour of singing and dancing to all of Lah-Lah's hits. All tickets cost $27.50, with babies 12 months and under free. See here for details.



Sunday, 10th June

Kids in the Shed will be held at the Old Bus Depot Markets, with a petting zoo, jumping castle, pony rides, clown show, reptile show and much more! This is a popular event each year at the markets, where kids are entertained and there is also plenty of market stalls selling products just for kids. See here for details.

Saturday, 16th June

Canberra Glassworks Winter Glass Market is a popular, family friendly event each year, with demonstrations, craft activities, food stalls and activities for all ages. Visit the Hot Shop and stay warm as you watch glass blowing demonstrations. See here for details.

A Pooch Affair will be held at Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC), with doggie markets, activities, shows, best dressed competitions, giveaways and even a High Tea! Entry costs $15 for adults and children 12 and under are free. Dogs are a gold coin donation to the RSPCA ACT. See here for details.

The Canberra Kids Market will also be held at the EPIC, with pre-loved and new goods for sale. The market is $3 entry. See here for details.



Sunday, 24th June

Hotel Transylvania 3 Family Fun Day will be held at Tuggeranong Limelight Cinema, with a free goodie bag for the kids! See here for details.

Monday, 25th June

Teddy Bears Picnic Kids High Tea will be held at First Edition Canberra restaurant, with music, dancing, high tea, a tea party for the teddy's, face painting and much more! See here for details.

Thursday, 28th June

George's Marvellous Medicine will be showing at the Canberra Theatre Centre on 28th and 30th June. This show is adapted from the much-loved book by Roald Dahl, George's Marvellous Medicine. Tickets cost $25 plus booking fee. See here for details.

These are just some of the events and activities for kids that have advertised early, however check back with Canberra Weekendnotes for more events listed throughout the month. The first month of winter has got a HUGE range of things to do for all ages. For carers home throughout the week with babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers, it is a great opportunity to get out of the house, meet new people and make new friends. For parents with older children, the weekends are also crammed with fun ideas and things to do, which won't break the bank. Why not rug up, pull on those beanies and go exploring this weekend?
