Friday 3 April 2015 from 10am to 6pm is when the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (1 Convention Centre Place, South Wharf - (03) 9235 8000) is transformed into a wonderland for kids.
Entry is free and you don't need to book or buy tickets, but participating in the activities is by donation to the Good Friday Appeal.
To name a few, some of the activities include a giant roller skating rink, laser skirmish, sports clinics, kids cooking classes, rides, music, dancing and the popular Teddy Bear Hospital, so bring your favourite teddy or soft toy along for a special check up.
CLICK HERE to find out how you can go home with a new Jeep, or go for a joy ride in a Harley Davidson, Mustang or Hummer limo plus many other activities. If all this activity has made you hungry, head for the Woolworths Fresh Food Zone for a pit stop.
To get in the spirit of the Good Friday Appeal you could drive in, but public transport might be best as parking is limited at the MCEC. Parking is capped at a flat daily rate of $18 and there'll also be parking at
Etihad Stadium just across the river at a flat rate of $10.
If you're going by public transport, the closest train station is the Southern Cross and you can do a 10 minute walk from there to the MCEC. Otherwise you could catch trams 96, 112 or 109 down Spencer/Clarendon street stop at the Clarendon street entrance of MCEC.
The success of this 84th annual Good Friday Appeal lies in the strength of all the fundraisers who have been collecting donations all year through their hard work and dedication. You too can help each year by either
donating directly,
hosting your own event ,
fundraise at your local school or
host a tin at your place of work .
If you look around (google) in your browser or even check on the
Good Friday Appeal website , you'll probably also find a lot of events hosted by people who are fundraising for this appeal and you could get involved by attending them. For instance, there's the
The Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt & Family Picnic to which you can go along and have fun while fundraising for charity.
Why not put your
face on a tram , or join
Steamrail Victoria for a short
suburban rambler around the Melbourne suburbs . You could also participate in the
CPR Challenge or
Run for the Kids. As you can see, there's much that can be done to help the kids and it can be as simple as going to your local Woolworths supermarket and buying a
$2 raffle ticket for your chance to drive away in a brand new car!.
Nothing this big runs smoothly without the support of many volunteers and the organisers have been lucky enough to have all the volunteers they need for this year. However, if you'd like to be on a waiting list for this year or apply for next year,
The Good Friday Appeal telethon will be broadcast live across Victoria all day from the Kids Day Out. The telethon will continue into the evening with a
Charity Gala from 7pm featuring performances by some of the biggest names in Australian entertainment.
Tickets to the Charity Gala will go on sale online on Monday 16 March 2015 so keep an eye on the
website or
Facebook page for details.
In closing, read
HERE about the face of this years Good Friday Appeal, 2 year old Oliver. He is one of the many innocents who will be the recipient of all the support and fundraising you provide for a better quality of life.
