Shells are simply beautiful. Their intricate designs and unique colours make you want to pick them up from the sand and hold on to them like a precious jewel. It doesn't matter how old you are, you still feel a sense of wonder when you look at a perfect shell. This is why they make such great gifts - everyone can appreciate their beauty.
The following are 3 easy gift ideas that our family love to make with shells, to make a personalised gift for friends and family. What do you like to do with your shells?
Ladybug Gift Tag - If you find any flat round shells with holes in them, paint them in a variety of bright colours and turn them into cute ladybugs! Paint the main colour first and let it dry, before going over the top in the black paint for the head, wings and spots. When it is dry, thread some curling ribbon through the hole and attach it to a plant pot as a present. This is a gorgeous gift for all green thumbs!
Shells & Candle in a Jar - To make this attractive candle set below, clean an empty Moccona coffee jar and place a pretty candle inside. Add small shells to the base of the jar to surround it. Then thread matching beads onto fishing line and attach it to the rim of the jar. Attach a large shell to the middle of the beads by threading fishing line through a hole in the shell.
Alphabet Necklaces - This is an easy gift idea that all ages can do. Simply loop a length of colourful thread through the hole in a shell and then thread on the alphabet beads. Add any decorations, such as a heart sticker, and give them as gifts to little friends. If you don't want to make a necklace, you can always apply the same idea to making a key ring or bag tag.
Shell & Bead Wind Chime - This wind chime takes a while to make, but it is worth the effort when you see the look on the recipients face when you give it to them! My daughter and I made these a short time ago and as soon as our friends saw them, the requests came in. We are now making two green versions for upcoming birthdays! See here for the full instructions.
