Kangaroo Island is one of South Australia's best treasures and the amazing FEASTival is back in 2015. This 8-day FEASTival is the perfect opportunity to discover the sights, sounds and definitely tastes of Kangaroo Island. This year the 8 day gastronomic celebration will embrace the rich history the island has to offer and provide extraordinary dining experiences. With so many events available I'm sure there's one suitable for you! Here are a few to get you started!
Restaurants and Cellar Doors promise great food and wine but at KI FEASTival, you have the opportunity to discover the stories behind our food and produce from Australian food producers and cooks. This event allows visitors to join the local island producers, farmers and cooks for an intimate dining experience in their own home or farm.
The Hothouse will be an authentic local experience where you can share a table with a local and indulge in a large selection of food and drink from the food stalls available. There will be live entertainment, demonstrations and activities throughout the day so do join in the fun!
Gin Masterclass & Gin Blending
Jon and Sarah Lark of KIS (Kangaroo Island Spirits) are passionate about gin and would love to share that with you. Producing unique Australian Gin, they have won multiple awards internationally. Join them for an insight into the history of Gin and different methods of production. At the Gin Blending event Jon and Sarah will take you through the steps of creating your very own 200mL bottle of Gin.
This is quite an interesting even where guests will enjoy lunch at Island Pure Sheep Dairy featuring some wood fired oven and campfire cooked seafood, pork, lamb and geese. It's a casual very much back to nature dining experience. In Biblical times, sheep's milk was the milk of choice even to make natural, pure cheese and yoghurt so expect some special cheeses at this special lunch on the banks of Cygnet River.
Imagine enjoying cocktails on the beach before heading to your Cliff House Lair overlooking a breathtaking view! Take the opportunity to sample cocktails as well as scrumptious food prepared by Chef Rachel Hannaford starring spirits produced by KIS. This is a night for glamour and utmost luxury.
I know you're thinking of seagulls honing in on your chips at the beach. This is nothing like that. It's a beautiful experience where you will be escorted to a secret location by torchlight before sunrise. Don't worry, hot coffee and beverages will be waiting for you there so you're wide awake and ready for the greatest show of awakening bird and wildlife. Breakfast will be provided.
Gin Food = Fusion
This is a sit down formal dinner where you will enjoy a three course meal inspired by three of KIS' award winning Gins prepared by Chef David Mitchell from Bella's Restaurant. Each course will be accompanied by a Gin Cocktail prepared by Jon and Sarah Lark from KIS.
There are a few other events such as the French Toast Masterclass, The Italian Connection, The Enchanted Garden and the Food (r)evolution. It's definitely worth considering a visit during the FEASTival especially if you've never been to the beautiful Kangaroo Island before.
KI FEASTival 2015 runs from 1st - 8th of May 2015. For more information, bookings, prices and enquiries head over to their website.
