When you have a baby, they seem to grow and change so quickly so getting professional photos done to capture their different stages is a great idea.

Especially when you have a newborn- you want to make sure if you bother to leave the house- that it's going to be worth it.

With so many photographers out there it can be hard to decide which one to go with.



You want it to be a fun, comfortable experience and you want someone who is going to personalise the experience.

Having taken up photography after having had a not-so-amazing experience when getting photos of one of her own babies, Kerry Baker knows what it's like to be the mum hoping the photography session is going to go well.

She's now been taking photos of newborns and babies for seven years.



When I took my 10-month-old daughter to Kerry's photography studio at her Tapping home, Kerry quickly realised that I wasn't really into the frills and flowery headbands, so found props that worked for us.

Kerry lets you choose what works for you. She also understands that babies are babies (which in our case meant bub wanted to crawl and investigate every inch of her studio).

She has a variety of soft blankets, scarves and rugs to set the scene and she prefers to use neutrals such as browns, creams, and muted blues, pinks and other colours, to keep the focus on whoever she is photographing.

As well as enjoying the in-studio experience- you want to be happy with the end product.

We were happy to see that in just 45 minutes or so, Kerry had been able to capture our daughter's cheeky character, a glimpse of her few teeth and her trademark concentrating-with-tongue-out look.



To get great newborn photos it's usually best if babies are asleep, something Kerry has become very good at over the years of having so many newborns in her studio."I had a dad in the studio with his second child last week and he told me he still remembers my settling technique and its working on his brand new baby, he was very chuffed with himself," she told me.



A newborn session is $200, a baby/family session is $150 and then packages are available to purchase the images from the session.
