I left last night's performance of
Keira Daley: LadyNerd feeling a little warm, with that fuzzy glow of camaraderie that comes from the consolation of a support group meeting. After an hour with Keira, I felt a little less alone as a fellow lady nerd, in a world made cold by so many misplaced apostrophes.
Note: lady nerds do not always wear argyle socks.
Keira's cabaret hour romp pays homage to some of the most awesome lady nerd brains ~ from Marie Curie to
Ada Lovelace (the first computer programmer in 1843) via the woman who invented Liquid Paper.
Accompanied on piano by Mark Chamberlain (Jersey Boys), Keira Daley aims to reclaim the nerd from the niche, whence it has been stuffed by advertising marketeers to sell stuff.
LadyNerd has played Sydney, Brisbane, the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, and was part of The Best of Sydney Fringe line-up at the Edinburgh Fringe.
For four nights only, LadyNerd ends Sunday night. Tickets: $23/$21. Show starts at 8.15pm (7.15pm Sunday).
Sydney-based writer/performer Keira Daley is a 2010 Sydney Cabaret Showcase grand finalist, and appeared as Susan in the critically-acclaimed NSW premiere and return seasons of [Title of Show], as Rhoda in the Sydney premiere of William Finn's A New Brain, and as Jeannie in The Great American Trailer Park Musical, touring prior with sketch comedy Princess Cabaret and improv show BLANK the Musical.
She recently studied screenwriting and improvisation at Chicago's renowned comedy school, The Second City, made possible by the Australia Council's ArtStart grant. Mark Chamberlain was a deputy keyboardist on Jersey Boys (Sydney), and musical director of The Last Five Years and 8th Annual Cabaret Showcase.
