Lives on the battlefield and on the home front
The centenary of ANZAC has intensified the annual commemoration. We remember or learn about the lives of brave young diggers, lost or shattered, from the day of their landing on the Gallipoli peninsula. The effects on their families back home are the background to the Huon Valley Theatre's new production, Keep The Home Fires Burning.
Written by the local multi-talented Megan Graham, the original script has given the cast a glimpse of those uncertain times on the battlefield and on the home front. Graham's grandfather had served in both World Wars and the Boer War, which makes this musical much closer to her heart. Garry Paige, whose great uncle Private Russell Bosisto's remains were found 82 years after he was reported missing, has composed the song In a Field in France in the Private's honour.
The personal touches to this production will encourage everyone to remember and reflect on the lives of all soldiers, past and present, and those of the loved ones.
