Get someone else to look after them and have fun
It's that time of year where it's about to get HOT! So why don't you plan some time with your loved one and get the kids active whilst you enjoy some quality time!

Being a big kid myself, I've looked into the top 5 activities that are guaranteed to make your children smile, tire them out AND give you a few hours to read that book, have a snooze, hold hands with your loved one or even go to that yoga class you haven't had time for. Do this knowing that your little ones will be looked after and bursting with stories to tell you!

Horse riding

Top of my list is Royals Equestrian Centre. I have grown up with horses and I can't wax lyrically enough about how much fun my furry friends have brought to my life. Royals is a little gold nugget in our beautiful city of country zen in our busy lives. Being a horse person brings so many skills to your life from understanding an animal and achieving amazing things together to physical confidence and thinking on your feet (or in the saddle).

Royals are holding their Christmas School Holiday Program and it's even running on Christmas Eve!

Monday to Friday 9am to 3.30pm

January 9th to 29th

Investment of $150 per day. Choose one day, one week or every day.

Spaces are limited so book today by calling Joshua on 0408 183079 or email them at

Imagination flow

My next recommendation would be to get their imagination flowing with Flying Fox Studios at Everton Park where for just $23 for a ninety minute class your little ones will learn skills such as visual arts, engineering, craft, science, music, drama, textiles, and construction. With titles such as "Skylab: experiments from space", "Hack your backpack", "Colours of the reef", "Cats with capes" and "Fairy school" I'd like to get in on the action! There are only limited spaces available so book online today.

Calling all budding little actors! Is your little one always looking for the spotlight and would like to explore this talent? Look no further. NITA are holding boot camps so that they may re-enact their favourite hero, villain or spy scene for TV, theatre or film. Find out more on their website.

This is a great sport to start, no matter what age it is a skill to bond with others, keep fit and keep boredom at bay. Operating out of 3 centres on Brisbane's north side, south side and the Gold Coast, Pure Tennis Academy offers a range of programmes, lessons, fixtures and camps to match every player's needs, from beginners to elite stages. As with every sport, tennis teaches essential motor skills, which include agility, balance and co-ordination. From $50 a day find out more and book on their website.

My last recommendation is for the little adventurers amongst us. Is your offspring always living dangerously? Treat them this year to abseiling, canoeing, kayaking, rafting, low ropes, archery, bushwalking, orienteering, environmental activities and high ropes. Let them get their thrills in a professional environment where they will have fun but won't put themselves in danger. Find out more and book today through Kindilan.

Have fun this summer and stay active!
