In less than four years, Californian Girl Katheryn Hudson has metamorphosised into zany Pop sensation, Katy Perry. One of the biggest stars on the planet, voted sexiest woman and getting 5 singles to number one from one album - the only other pop singer to do this was Michael Jackson - and all this at the tender age of 27. We clearly love something about this pin-up cartoon like lady.
One of the Boys was her hugely successful debut album, based around a Lolita style theme, but her second album, Teenage Dream is where she hit the big time and scored a world tour that saw her transform her stage and costumes into Candyfornia [see what she did there?]
During this tour Perry opted to have cameras follow her on tour in a warts and all documentary. Covering the highs and lows of the tour and her personal life including her whirlwind romance with Russell Brand. There is also footage from early on in her career and interviews with fans.
This isn't just a glossy piece of self promotion. It shows Katy at her lowest ebbs, at home, with friends and shock horror: without make-up.
The star also claimed it was to document her hugely successful tour and allow fans who weren't lucky enough to get a ticket to enjoy the concert via the cinema screen - hence why you can see it in 3D - to get the full candy-fuelled effect!
The premiere of Katy Perry: Part of Me was in London. I urge all Perry fans, Pop fans or music-documentary fans to go along. It is a PG so feel free to take your children.
You are encouraged to sing and dance along, which trust me, you will be doing as the pop tunes are infectious.
I was lucky enough to get a ticket to the Teenage Dream tour and it truly is an [assault] but a good one on the senses. The costume changes, stage setup and vocals are amazing.
A great behind the scenes look at a superstar of our times.
