Classic flavours with a healthy twist
I am a big fan of local run cafes that have a more personal feel than their chain run counterparts. Places where you can meet the owners and the staff are actually happy to serve you. Kat's Corner in North Lakes, just north of Brisbane, is the perfect example of such a place.
Although this family run cafe is only 6 months old, it has already become a favourite of both local residents as well as professionals who work in the nearby buildings, and it's not hard to see why. The expertly made aromatic coffees will satisfy any caffeine addict, but really they are just the beginning.
Kat's offers a variety of breakfast options including Bircher muesli, fruit salads, bacon and egg wraps and many more. On Saturdays there is a more substantial brunch menu and if you are lucky, you can relax to the sounds of live acoustic music while you enjoy your meal.
For the lunchtime crowd, Kat's Corner has a different special each day as well as all the usual favourites such as fresh salads, gourmet sandwiches and wraps and quiches. On the day of our visit we were able to sample a delicious Thai beef noodle salad, house made frittata and a tasty hamburger with 'the lot'. Whilst the cafe was busy, our meals were delivered in a timely manner with a smile.
If coffee and cake is what you crave, Kat's Corner has an ever changing array of treats on display in their front cabinet that will tempt any sweet tooth. I can personally vouch for the cheesecake slice.
Kat's Corner also offers a catering service that has already become popular with local business in the area. As an added bonus, co-owner Kat has a background in nutrition and is a registered dietitian, so has a wide knowledge of not only healthy options but also a thorough understanding of food allergies and intolerances.
So if you live or work in the North Lakes area, or are simply driving through, stop in and visit Kat and her team – you won't be disappointed.
