The creative works of Victorian artist Katherine Wheeler will be on display this June at the Paper Boat Press shop, gallery and studio in Ashgrove.
Titled, "Periphery", the exhibition will run from 1-16 June 2018 and feature enchanting, original ceramics and works on paper by Katherine.
Wheeler's work is influenced by her immediate surroundings, both domestic and the landscape, traditional crafts, collection, marine life and marine habitats, human influence on the natural world and life and death in the natural world.
Her art forms are mainly sculptural jewellery and hollowware which combine materials such as thin silver, porcelain, paper and thread. The works and materials are often 'camouflaged' under white paint, to create a new skin for the forms which are anthropomorphic; the white bleaches the forms, leaving them with the appearance of shell or bone.
