Looking for a place to meet for lunch during the week in the CBD, we decided to try out Kangkong on Waymouth Street. Kangkong is on the corner of Waymouth Street and Topham Mall.

We were pleasantly surprised with the decor and I had a chuckle with some of the sayings on the pillars around the restaurant, such as "man with one chopstick go hungry".

I enjoyed looking around the restaurant at the wall art and there was a Rickshaw up in one corner which suits the restaurants theme.

The restaurant is spacious and light. There is a nice amount of space between tables. I don't like it when I go out and the back of my chair is pressing against the back of the persons chair behind me and the tables are so close together, I can hear other people's conversations.

The service was quick and the waitress was friendly and helpful when we asked about items on the menu. The waitress explained, Kangkong cuisine is South East Asian which includes Malay, Thai and Vietnamese.

A bottle of table water was brought over without us having to ask.
Our drink order was taken first and the waitress didn't look surprised at all when a particularly thirsty member of our group ordered two beers to arrive together. Which is more than I can say for the rest of us, we teased him a little . My drink of choice is a lemon lime and bitters. Sometimes this can be too sweet or not sweet enough. My drink was just right and very refreshing.

We took some time to decide on our meals as there was quite a variety of dishes. The menu has vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and dairy free options.

I liked that there was cutlery on the table along with the brightly coloured chopsticks, saving me having to ask for a fork.

Three of us ordered the Butter Chicken with steamed rice, which was very nice. The chicken had a subtle chargrilled BBQ flavour and the sauce was rich and tasty with fresh coriander on the side. I love fresh coriander so I was very happy.

Another ordered the Australian prawn salad with chargrilled watermelon, crispy shallots and pineapple. She was very happy with her choice and remarked how even the pineapple had a beautiful chargrilled flavour.

Two people ordered the crispy SA chilli salt squid, Asian herb salad and lemongrass lime dipping sauce. The squid I am told was very tender and cooked to perfection.

We had looked at the dessert menu but I was saved from having to choose between the delicious sounding desserts as we were all quite full from our mains and we had to return to work.

Everyone enjoyed their meal and we were able to order and eat in 1 hour without feeling rushed. Our meals came out quite quickly despite the restaurant being busy.

We paid at a counter by the door on our way out and were able to pay separately. Some establishments make it seem such a chore to have to separate a bill.
