The owners of this historic building must have said to themselves, "Wouldn't it be great to turn this into a sweet shop?" That is exactly what has happened to The English and Scottish Australian Bank Limited building in Kangaroo Valley. Located a two hour drive from Sydney, the 120 year old building is now home to the & Ice Creamery.

If the classic architecture has not already blown you over from the outside, then the inside of the building will completely take your breath away. Sweets, lollies, fudge and homemade goodies line the walls. Almost everything inside is homemade and has that crafty country touch. Most of the products they sell also are made with local produce, so not only are you supporting your sweet tooth but you are supporting the local economy. Candy with a conscience.

[ADVERT]You cannot visit without trying some of their famous fudge. It is described as fudge made the old-fashioned way, and they promise you can taste the passion that goes into perfecting it. Being a lover of all things caramel, I selected to try the caramel fudge and was delighted at how soft and creamy it was, melting in my mouth. The chocolate fudge was of a similar consistency, however I found it a little rich for my liking. I'm sure chocoholics will disagree with my tastes on this one though as it seems to be the most popular flavour of fudge in stock.

If you have a little more time to spare when you visit, or if you are well organised, you can treat yourself and book in a Devonshire High Tea experience right in the heart of Kangaroo Valley. Available Thursdays and Saturdays at 10 am and 1 pm, the booking is a must as each setting is individually prepared. Be sure to book at least two days prior to your visit. This is no casual morning or afternoon tea with classic china tea sets and vintage tablecloths. Homemade sweets and ribbon sandwiches are served in plentiful amounts, and they offer a large selection of teas and coffees to satisfy your palate.

They also serve a large selection of ice creams, sundaes, milkshakes and other creamy concoctions. There are roughly ten different flavours of ice cream available at any one time. I recommend the Rainbow Ice Cream, an old favourite of mine. The Fudge House & Ice Creamery variety does not leave you disappointed. We also sampled the Wicked Chocolate Sundae, a generous serving of chocolate and ice cream. This seemed a little too intense. Nevertheless it was still enjoyed immensely and recommended to others with the small disclaimer that the consumer may just experience death by chocolate.

The Fudge House features a large bookshelf stacked with jams and preserves. Once again, these are all homemade with fresh Australian ingredients. They also have a Honey Bar, which features honey collected right from the Valley itself. With cute cloths and ribbons to decorate the jars, these jams and preserves make wonderful gifts for family and friends back home. Grandmas especially will love them.

You are also able to purchase their famous fudge for special events. Think bonboniers for weddings, or gifts for fancy functions. They will hand make fudge of your choice to order. What better gift to give your wedding guests, especially if you've tied the knot in Kangaroo Valley?

If you are not able to make the trip down, then you can also purchase a range of gifts and treats from their website . They've got fudge, brittle and coconut ice all on offer, as well as gift packs for special occasions.

While you can purchase and enjoy this fudge from the comfort of your living room, this is one place you'll need to dine in to really get the full experience. Sit out on the porch of the historic Australia Bank building and enjoy a square of fudge, or ice cream and with a cool breeze, the warm sun and the relaxed pace of life in the country.
