As one of Canberra's many historic sites,
Kambah Woolshed tells a significant story from times gone by and connects you with the lives of its early inhabitants. It is one of the buildings that remain from the grand Kambah Station.
As a small farm building in the late 19th century, the shed was eventually expanded to house shearers and their sheep. It had raised flooring for its wool room and lower flooring for its shearing board. Its shearing stands stood where part of the toilet is currently. Although greatly altered, the surviving structure still has some evidence of its past use as a woolshed. A wool bale stencil can actually be seen on one of the ceiling beams.
Today, the shed serves as a large covered picnic and BBQ area for the public to enjoy. It is also one of the historic sites on the self-drive
Tuggeranong Heritage Track route. A heritage signage has been erected to remind us of Canberra's early beginnings.
Kambah Woolshed can be found at the corner of O'Halloran Circuit and Springbett Street in Kambah. There is plenty of parking available nearby.
