Autumn in the Dandnong Ranges

Autumn in the Dandenong Ranges is a sight to behold. The change of colours and the misty air can be quite enchanting, but add the waft of roasting chestnuts from roadside stalls and that's magical.

Roasted chestnuts

Every year the Dandenong Ranges community come together to celebrate the delicious chestnut with the Kalorama Chestnut Festival.

This year's Kalorama Chestnut Festival will be held on Sunday 3rd of May from 10am to 4pm at the Kalorama Reserve in the Dandenong Ranges. It's a fundraising event, hosted by the Mt Dandenong Preschool, that has become a local institution and a much-loved family day out for everyone!

Take your time meandering through the plenty of gourmet food stalls. Savour the wonderful treats on offer like chestnut ice cream, chestnut soup, chestnut cakes, poffertjes with chestnut cream and even chestnut beer! Enjoy some Devonshire tea, coffee, mulled wine and more delicious goodies.

There are activities for older kids like bungie trampolining and mini golf whilst younger kids can enjoy the fairground rides, a petting zoo, pony rides and jumping castles together with a new 'Kids Wonderland' complete with chestnut crafts, chestnut games, face painting and story time with the magical Chestnut fairy.

Featuring at the Chestnut Festival, will be a variety of performances from musical acts, dance and community groups, including performances from local band 'The Starks' .

The culinary stage will include a cooking demonstration from Locavore, a cooking school dedicated to showcasing the best local, gourmet produce the Hills and Yarra Valley have to offer. Not to mention the dozens of stalls showcasing locally made artisan handcraft and locally grown produce.

Was confusing this with Red Hill but googling this it seems it is 16km from Mildura, bit far to go seeing we are all in Melbourne on this list.
