Next time you're touring Mt Dandenong, or if you're travelling out towards Silvan, make sure you count Kallista Tea rooms as one of your stops. Located only 5 minutes from Belgrave along Monbulk Road, the tea rooms provide a real sense of nature with their location and decor.

They're open 6 days a week from 8am-5pm, except on Wednesday. There are busy periods, especially over weekends and public holidays; however there is ample seating inside, with a couple extra tables outside for sunny days. They also offer a lounge setting for those very relaxed coffee dates.

The staff also makes every effort to use local produce, such as freshly squeezed juice, as well as products grown and purchased from the Yarra Valley. This is evident not only in the taste, but also the items available to buy as you enter the cafe. This includes soaps, CDs by local artists, and a range of foods. In terms of the menu, there are a range of meals and snacks, including Devonshire tea. The Lindt Hot Chocolates are also a must.

The cafe can become quite noisy during the busy periods, and I do recommend appropriate footwear, as the car-parks are not paved (watch for mud). This is more an issue during winter or after a shower. However, the cafe itself is welcoming with its friendly staff and natural feel. There are bird feeders arranged along the windows, and you'll often see them enjoying a snack along with you.
