The Kaleidoscope festival is Western Australia's first festival of illumination with a range of exciting experiences over four big nights.
Kaleidoscope's Creative Director Cindi Drennan said "
Kaleidoscope will be a journey of surprising light that take you on an adventure into the city of the future, created by WA artists nurturing brand new collaborations and innovations."
With a theme of 'City of the Future', every evening from 5.30pm the Joondalup City Centre will light up and become a living, breathing museum with an exciting program of live buildings, projection performances, virtual reality, workshops, 3D architecture and more.
Some of the amazing installations you will see include '
The Lighthouse ' on Central Park Oval, an enormous pop-up performance venue that is 8m tall and is large enough to house DJs, light installations and a stage for the brand new dance collaboration by Chrissie Parrot.
The
Imaginarium VR ride 'Mechatron' is a six seater virtual reality 'ride' that goes beyond the average virtual reality experience, and will be showcased in collaboration with local artists and TAFE students so riders can experience a series of virtual reality adventures based around the 'city of the future' theme.
If you have ever been fascinated by the gothic spires of the ECU Chancellory, you will enjoy the special '
Illuminating Genius ' show where light and music will combine to form a 'visual symphony of light' with a special soundtrack composed by highly acclaimed composer Kevin Penkin.
There will also be special
family-friendly workshops such as glow-in-the-dark face paint, upcycled shopping trolleys and growing light gardens, as well as a range of
music performances and shows across the four nights.
Pack a picnic or enjoy dinner from the exciting range of
food trucks and vendors that will be camped across the city including Fish Boss, Grilled to the Mac, Hot Buttered Corn, Zambrero and Churro Central.
Events will be taking place both within the Joondalup City Centre and the ECU Campus, both of which are easily accessible by train or you can find easy parking nearby.
