For over 40 years Kaldor Public Art Projects has transformed spaces and lives with the influx of renown artists to Australia. After introducing Sydney to Roman Ondák earlier this year with the interactive performance piece, 'Swap', I am excited about the upcoming participatory art exhibit put on by Kaldor Public Art Project, Project 28: Roman Ondák. This will be a free event held in the historical Parramatta Town Hall opening January 10th, 2014, from 10:00am-10:00pm, and continuing from the 11th-24th, 10:00am-6:00pm.

What might not be the usual art exhibit experience, Ondák challenges the art public to have interactive experiences with his installations and performances. He wants the visitors to become participants in the artwork, to interact with the artwork, and to evolve from observers to collaborators. Not only does this create an evolving work of art, but it creates an evolving art public; The lines between artist/artwork/viewer become totally blurred. What is wonderful about this participatory art, is that everyone becomes more enriched by the experience. The exhibit guest have their say and make their mark while the conceiver of the project knows that the work is presenting the unabashed truth.

For the upcoming show, Project 28: Roman Ondák, the Slovakian artist will showcase 3 different artworks. The works will be presented by Kaldor Public Art Projects in conjunction with the Sydney Festival. Two of his previous and most celebrated works will be re-mounted, 'Swap' and 'Measuring the Universe'. It will be fascinating to see how these two artworks differ from their previous locations, as the Parramatta community will amalgamate their own characters and characteristics into the works. The third work will be especially created for, and premiering at Project 28, called 'Terrace'. The new work, 'Terrace', is a recreation of the artists balcony from his home in Bratislava. 'Terrace' will be an interactive piece as well, but how will that interaction be defined? We'll have to wait and see.
