The Kalahari Cafe brand has a few locations around Perth, and the Kalahari Cafe in Wanneroo should be on your list to visit.

Not just a cafe, it's also a South African shop selling all sorts of yummy treats, from boerewors (a kind of sausage) and biltong (like jerky but better!) to biscuits, lollies and chocolates.

They have a vibey cafe setting with plenty of tables inside. Their cakes are all homemade and all food portions are very generous.

Kalahari Cafe in Wanneroo was opened by Adele and Hein in 2013 as part of the larger Kalahari Cafe group and they have run it successfully ever since. They didn't come from a hospitality background at all in South Africa, they both worked in building, renovations and interior design. But they have taken to running a restaurant like ducks to water.

The menu covers breakfast, lunch and dinner service and have one of the more varied menus at South African shops in Perth that I have seen.

My go to drink is the Red Cappuccino which is a rooibos cappuccino - completely caffeine free, so it must be good for you, right?

Their toasted sandwiches are amazing - made with their own homemade bread. For a South African treat, check out the vetkoek options. Vetkoek is like a savoury doughnut - the dough is made and then deep fried and cut open and filled with your choice of filling.

But make sure you leave room for dessert! I think they make the best lemon meringue pie I've ever had, and they also make peppermint crisp tart and milk tart - two desserts that are very popular in South Africa.

So next time you need your coffee fix or fancy something sweet or savoury, check out Kalahari Cafe in Wanneroo.
