The other day in Cronulla my friend took me to try "
the place with the really nice sandwiches" for brunch, and I concur. The sandwiches (or in my case open sandwich) were indeed quite nice, and the charming coffeehouse,
Kafenio Cafe , a fresh find with friendly beachtown air.
If you want a feel for the cafe's coffee culture, which is abuzz, you may choose to sit inside. Being a warm summer's day, and having fluffy friends with us, we went with the outdoor area; with lots of shade, pops of orange, and the open air of Cronulla Street, it's a great spot to chill.
Find your favourite caffeine hits. The cafe likes Robusta and Arabica coffee beans, with your choice of dark brew or white coffee. I went with Green Tea - my latest obsession. A generous pot of water infused with a tea bag came out. I was worried the tea might dilute but the cuppas I sipped on were fine.
Food-wise my friend and I made very similar selections. She went with the Neptune sandwich, while I went the salmon bruschetta. Both came with delicious smoked salmon, fresh avocado, and capers adding a beautiful tang. My bruschetta also had cream cheese, and dill to complement the salmon.
With a list of fresh and tasty options, and the chilled out air of Cronulla, it's no surprise that the place with the nice sandwiches attracts a stream of customers. Staff are prompt and attentive, tending also to fluffy visitors - especially much-needed water for puffed out pooches.
Kafenio is walking distance from the train station along with the suburb's beautiful beaches and coastal tracks. Stay to enjoy, or grab a sandwich to go!
