Just Improvise, Perth's leading edge improvisation training provider has just released its exciting program of interactive Improv Classes for adults, teens and children this May and June..

These innovative classes will take place at Bedford RSL Hall on the corner of Grand Promenade and Craven Street, will help adults, teenagers and children champion imperfection and embrace change by honing their improvisational skills.

All courses draw on the Just Improvise improv philosophy known as the "Hive of Nine Be's" - Be yourself, Be positive, Be present, Be kind, Be bold, Be playful, Be flexible, Be imperfect and Be changed and will be headed by national improv champion and WA Academy of Performing Arts improv lecturer, Glenn Hall, and his award-winning team of experienced trainers.

Hall has recently returned to WA after training and performing with some of the Australia's best as part of the Adelaide Fringe Festival – winning the national Maestro Solo Improv Competition. His next challenge is to represent Western Australia at the National Theatrsports Championships as part of the Sydney Comedy Festival – alongside fellow Just Improvise trainer and performer Esther Longhurst, at the end of April.
"Just Improvise is passionate about applying improv skills to all of life's stages because the skills are definitely transferable," Hall said.
"I have been teaching improvisation to actors and non-actors for 20 years – when I teach my adult courses for non-actors, I always ask why they're here and what they want to get out of the course."
"Invariably, most participants will respond with 'I want to get out of my comfort zone' or 'I want to come out of my shell."
"These answers show that more and more, adults are understanding the need to develop and practice resilient behaviours in order to lead more constructive and fulfilling lives.
"It's unrealistic to expect to be the best at everything. Improvisation helps people to be the best person they can be, to be kind to themselves and to be flexible when life doesn't go their way."

Whether your desire is to be more impulsive, imaginative or creative (for business or pleasure), the Just Improvise crew will have a course to suit your needs!

The JUMP: Intro to Improv Masterclass for Adults, which runs from 10am to 3pm,on Sunday 18th May and again on Sunday 29th June, is designed to help adults develop the attitude, approach and mindset required for effective improvisation.

The masterclass gives individuals the chance to experience ideas such as "failing happily", "being obvious to seem creative" and "trying less to achieve more" – while encouraging fearlessness, collaboration, commitment, positivity and fun.

For those who've already completed JUMP, Hall will deliver his FLY: Improv Skills Development Course for Adults in June. The four-week course starts at 7.15pm on Wednesday 4th June and focuses on skills, techniques and tricks for developing storytelling and scenes.

Hall will also lead the BOOST: Improv Skills Course for Teens in Term Two. The eight-week course is on 6 to 7pm, starting Wednesday 7th May, and helps empower 13 to 16-year-olds with improv skills and games, to develop a more flexible, more resilient mindset that will help with all aspects of their lives.

Esther Longhurst heads up the BOOST: Improv Skills Course for Kids in Term Two. The eight-week program is offered for two different age groups: 6-8 year olds at 3.30pm -4.30pm and 9-12 year olds at 4.45-5.45pm. Both courses commence on Wednesday 7th May.

Longhurst, who ran the first BOOST: Improv Courses for Kids in Term 1 said:
"BOOST is designed around improvisation philosophies that apply to life, how to roll with the punches when things don't go according to plan, how to interact with a range of characters in life, practising kindness to ourselves and others around us.

As a parent, as well as an improviser, I see that improvising is something kids do so naturally, it's instinctive. These classes are just a space to develop what is already there."
