'Just Below the Surface' is an upcoming painting, glass lamps and resin jewellery exhibition by two esteemed local artists, Gayle Recheilt and Bronwyn Doherty.
The exhibition will open to the public on 13th October and run till 25th October 2015. It will be staged at RQAS Gallery and entry is FREE.
The joint exhibition showcases the honed talents of Gayle and Bronwyn, who each have their own distinctive artistic styles but share a common interest in experimenting with classic techniques.
The title of the exhibition 'Just Below the Surface' is a play on the focus of each artist. For example Gayle has a selection of paintings she has used an encaustic technique on, this utilises hot wax to create some stunning effects. Meanwhile Bronwyn is displaying lamps and jewellery that feature the use of resin, alongside a selection of paintings. Yet while their styles on the surface are very different in approach, the two artists share an interest in surface effects.
Gayle's encaustic paintings give a new look to an ancient medium and have a richness in the depth of the surface and a tangible and luscious quality.
Bronwyn's accompanying works are a mix of stains and her lamps have a unique surface effect and a lovely translucent quality, with an added bonus of luminosity when lit up.
All are welcome to view this exhibition this spring.
